Privacy Policy

The controller under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:

We are not a ferry company and not a booking agent. We never see the name, payment details or passport data you enter when you book on a partner site. That data is handled by the company you book with, under its own privacy policy.

This website is hosted by dogado GmbH, Antonio-Segni-Straße 11, 44263 Dortmund, Germany. Like every web server, it automatically records some data when a page is requested:

• your IP address
• date and time of the request
• the page or file requested and the referring page
• browser type and operating system
• the HTTP status code and amount of data transferred

These log files are needed to deliver the website and to protect the server against attacks. They are not combined with other data and not used for marketing. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The host keeps them only as long as needed for these purposes.

To see which guides are useful, we run a small statistics script of our own. It does not use cookies and stores nothing in your browser (no localStorage or sessionStorage). For each page view it sends the following to our own server:

• the page address and the page you came from (including campaign tags such as utm_source, if present)
• a random ID that only exists for this one page view and links it to clicks on the same page
• a rough device category (desktop, mobile, tablet or bot)
• whether you came from an AI assistant such as ChatGPT or Perplexity
• clicks on booking links (for example to Direct Ferries or Stay22)
• your IP address, shortened before storage (the last part is set to zero), so it can no longer be linked to you

The data stays on our server and is not shared with anyone. It is deleted automatically after 13 months. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used and improving it (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). If you block JavaScript, the script does not run and the site still works.

Our ferry search and price boxes get their schedules and prices from Direct Ferries. Our server asks Direct Ferries for this data, so your browser does not connect to them while you search. Only the route and dates are sent, no personal data. When results are shown, small operator logos may load from a Direct Ferries image server, which then sees your IP address.

This site is funded through affiliate links, mainly to Direct Ferries (ferry tickets), to Booking.com and Hotels.com via Stay22 (hotels) and to GetYourGuide (tours). The partner ID is part of the link itself. Nothing is sent to these partners while you read a page. Only when you click such a link does your browser go to the partner site, which may set cookies there so that a booking can be credited to us. If you book, we receive a commission and the price stays the same for you.

The legal basis is our legitimate interest in funding this free guide (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). What happens on the partner site is covered by that partner's privacy policy. More on how we work with partners is in our affiliate disclosure.

Several pages show live prices for places to stay, provided by Stay22 Inc. (Montreal, Canada) with offers from Booking.com. Our server requests these listings from the Stay22 API and sends only the search itself: a location, the travel dates and the number of guests. Your IP address and other data about you are not passed on. Results are kept on our server for at least an hour, so many page views share one request.

The property photos in these lists are fetched by our server from Booking.com's image servers, kept on our server for up to seven days and delivered to you from bahamashopping.com. Your browser does not contact Stay22 or Booking.com while a list loads, and nothing is stored in your browser.

When you click a hotel or a "See all stays" link, your browser goes via stay22.com to the booking site, usually Booking.com. From then on the privacy policies of Stay22 and the booking site apply, and they may set cookies so that a booking can be credited to us. If you book, we receive a commission and the price stays the same for you. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in funding this free guide (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Some pages can show tour and activity suggestions from GetYourGuide Deutschland GmbH (Berlin, Germany). They only load after you click "Show tours". Only then does your browser connect to GetYourGuide, which receives your IP address, the page you are on and technical browser data, and may set cookies (for example a visitor ID) and store data in your browser. The legal basis is your consent given by that click (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, § 25(1) TDDDG). It only applies to that page view.

If you book a tour through such a suggestion or through one of our GetYourGuide links, we receive a commission; the price stays the same for you. More: GetYourGuide privacy policy.

A few pages show maps. Some are embedded from OpenStreetMap, others are drawn with the Leaflet library (hosted on our own server) using map tiles from OpenStreetMap. In both cases your browser loads the map images from servers of the OpenStreetMap Foundation (United Kingdom), which receive your IP address. Our weather tool loads forecasts and sea conditions directly from Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com, Switzerland), which also receives your IP address. Switzerland has an adequacy decision as well.

We use these services because maps and weather are hard to describe in words. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in a clear presentation (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Neither service sets cookies on our pages.

Fonts, stylesheets, scripts and the photos in our live hotel lists are loaded from our own server. We do not use Google Fonts, Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager or any other tracking or advertising service.

We set no cookies and store nothing in your browser's local or session storage. Cookies from third parties can only appear after you actively load the GetYourGuide tour suggestions or click through to a partner site. You can delete such data at any time in your browser settings.

If you email us, we use your address and message only to reply and keep the conversation for as long as needed to handle your request. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering your question (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The mailbox is provided by Google (Gmail).

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

• get information about the personal data we hold about you (Art. 15)
• have incorrect data corrected (Art. 16)
• have your data deleted (Art. 17) or its processing restricted (Art. 18)
• receive your data in a portable format (Art. 20)
• object to processing based on our legitimate interest (Art. 21)

To use these rights, just email us. We do not sell personal information and do not share it for advertising.

This site is a travel guide for adults planning a trip. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

We update this page when the website changes, for example when we add or remove a service. The date at the bottom shows the latest version.
