Island Hopping Made Easy

From two carpenters with a dream to Abaco's most reliable ferry service

Hey there, island hopper! ๐ŸŒด If you're planning to explore the Abacos, G&L Ferry is gonna be your new best friend. Started back in 2012 by Grant Albury and Lyle Sawyer (two local carpenters who just wanted cheaper boat rides to work), this ferry service has grown into THE way to island hop around here.

"These guys are the lifeline of the Abacos. Super frequent service means you're never stuck anywhere. Captain Jerry once waited 5 minutes for us when we were running late - that's island time hospitality! And get this - no reservations needed. Just show up and hop on!"

What started as a side hustle with one boat has exploded into a fleet of 9 ferries, making multiple daily runs to all the hottest spots in the Abacos. Their motto? "Hands on to better serve you" - and man, do they live up to it. These aren't some corporate ferry dudes; they're locals who grew up on these waters and treat every passenger like family.

"Here's the deal - they run boats every 1-2 hours throughout the day. During peak season (December through August), you'll barely wait. Low season? Still plenty of options, just maybe not AS many. Pro tip: that 5:30 PM return is THE LAST BOAT. Don't get stranded unless you've got a place to crash!"

Good to Know

Everything you need for smooth sailing

What to Bring

  • ๐Ÿ’ต Cash is King: Most places on the cays are cash-only. There's an ATM in Hope Town, but don't count on it working!
  • ๐Ÿงด Sun Protection: That boat ride = major sun exposure. Lather up!
  • ๐ŸŽ’ Day Pack: Towel, snorkel gear, water bottle - you know the drill
  • ๐Ÿ˜Š Good Vibes: You're on island time now, baby!
"Real talk - after Hurricane Dorian in 2019, these guys were heroes. They ran supply boats, helped rebuild, and kept the community connected when we needed it most. When you ride with G&L, you're not just getting a ferry service - you're supporting the backbone of the Abacos. Plus, they merged with Albury's Ferry Service, so now they're even bigger and better!"

Weather Watch

Ferry service is "weather permitting" - if it's looking sketchy, they'll cancel for safety. Follow their Facebook page for real-time updates, especially during hurricane season (June-November). Trust me, these captains know these waters like the back of their hand - if they say it's too rough, it's too rough!
